According to a statement from a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spokesperson, four more people were arrested Sunday after 12 ICE arrests Saturday.

According to Bryan D. Cox, an ICE communications director, four "illegally present" foreign nationals were arrested Sunday during targeted enforcement actions in Western North Carolina.

Two of the people arrested have "criminality beyond anything to do with their immigration status," Cox said in an email to News 13.

In the email, Cox wrote that "ICE only conducts targeted arrests and focuses its limited resources first and foremost on those who pose the greatest threat to public safety. Any suggestions as to ICE engaging in random or indiscriminate enforcement are categorically false. ICE only conducts targeted enforcement; ICE does not conduct checkpoints, raids or sweeps that target aliens indiscriminately."

On Saturday, ICE arrested 2 people in Asheville and 10 more in Western North Carolina.

Local activists and organizations held a press conference that same day in downtown Asheville, to "brief media and the community about the ICE attacks on Latinx community this morning."
