Lanes reopen on I-40 after morning wreck, driver charged

    ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- A driver of a dump truck has been charged after a wreck snarled traffic for hours on Tuesday morning.

    The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on the on-ramp to I-40 West at Highway 74A.

    According to police on the scene, dump truck driver William Bartz was charged with going too fast for conditions.

    I-40 west and exit 53 are completely blocked by an accident. Exit 51 is the only way to go west.

    The Asheville Fire Department reports heavy equipment fell off the back of a trailer and into an oncoming car.

    The driver of the other car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. She had two children in her car.
