Sunday started very cold and dry, with gusty winds for unsheltered mountain valleys.

But moisture returns late Sunday night into early Monday with light precipitation possible. Most of the precipitation should fall as rain or melting sleet.

Light is snow possible for Yancey, Mitchell, and Avery counties, as well as some higher elevations of the Smokies, Haywood, and Jackson Counties, before it turns to rain in the late morning or early afternoon.

Highs will finish in the upper 40's and low 50's on Monday.

A mostly dry cold front moves through the mountains on Tuesday before warmer weather begins to move back in.

Temperatures finally warm up toward the end of the week with several days in the 70s possible.
