There's a unique event to help cats in our area: a Christmas ornament-making party for the Asheville Cat Weirdos Emergency Fund.

With us on Friday morning's broadcast were Veronica Coit and Kerbie Berggren of Asheville Cat Weirdos, the local Facebook-based group that celebrates cats and cat lovers--and also fundraises for cats in need.

The group's Christmas fundraiser party is Sunday, December 17 at the Odditorium in West Asheville. The ACW Cat-stravaganza is 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Sunday, local cat-lovers can get the first-ever, limited-edition ACW Christmas ornaments for $10 each until they’re sold out.

You can also decorate your own ornament at the party: pricing is $3 for 1 ornament, or $6 for three. There will be sample designs, or you can create your own, and all supplies are provided.

Asheville Cat Weirdo Rusty and hs dog, Drifa, will be there as Santa and his helper elf for pictures with or without your kitties ("at your own risk, of course"). Suggested donation is $5 for each digital copy.

ACW member Rebecca Louise Cairns will perform "Cats Are My World" (sung to the tune of "Part of Your World" from "The Little Mermaid") along with some of her other kitty-inspired songs. There will also be adoptable cats from Mountain Pet Rescue Asheville .
