An Asheville man faces felony charges in an altercation at Pisgah View Apartments early Tuesday morning.

Police charged 26-year-old Devon Monterio King with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest as well as kidnapping, assault on a female and damage to property.

They say King resisted officers' attempts to take him into custody, and that he kicked out a patrol car window while being taken to jail, despite being handcuffed and shackled.

Officers responded after a woman called 911, reporting that her boyfriend was assaulting her.

When officers arrived, they said they could hear the woman saying that her boyfriend would not let her come to the door. The officers used a pass key to enter.

The officers said King had locked himself in an upstairs bedroom. When they forced the door, officers say King charged them with a baton.

They were able to subdue him, but say he continued to resist and struggle as they put him in a patrol car.

Once in the car, King was able to loosen the hobble device restraining him, and kicked out the right rear door glass of the patrol car. The officer pulled over, further restrained King, and transferred him to another patrol car with bars over the windows.

King was taken to jail without further incident.

Devon King is being held without bond for the assault charge, and held on a $100,000 secured bond on all other charges.
