A Jackson County man has been convicted of two counts of Taking Indecent Liberties with a Child.

Rogelio Torres Rivera was sentenced to a minimum of 16 months in prison, with a maximum sentence of 29 months, for each count. Rivera is also required to register as a sexual offender for the next 30 years.

Court documents show Rivera committed his crimes in 2011 on a 6-year-old male and 9-year-old female he was caring for. Authorities say Rivera was a friend of the children’s mother who was watching the children.

The crimes were not reported to law enforcement until 2016.

District Attorney Ashley Hornsby Welch said, “Protecting children is one of my primary

missions as District Attorney. I would like to commend the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for

the thoroughness of their investigation and Assistant District Attorney Christina Matheson for

her hard work in preparing this case for trial.”
