Man sentenced to 20 years for child sexual abuse
MADISON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) —
A Madison County man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of two counts of sexual offense by a custodian.
The investigation into Loyd Ronald Wills, 68, began in November of 2016, when the Hot Springs Police Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Department initiated an investigation of Wills based on a report a woman who said she was sexually abused approximately 30 years ago. The victim reported that she had continued to suffer emotionally and physically since that time, and had become greatly distressed to learn Wills had fostered other children once she had left his residence.
Further interviews led to Wills being charged and placed under arrest by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
“Through the work of my office and law enforcement justice was secured for the victim in this case,” District Attorney Seth Banks said in a statement. “This case sends a clear message that the mere passage of time will not provide immunity from prosecution for these types of heinous crimes. I would like to thank Assistant District Attorney John Honeycutt, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and the Hot Springs Police Department for their tireless work in bringing Loyd Ronald Wills to justice.”
In addition to the active twenty-year prison sentence, the judge imposed a $5,000.00 fine and also recommended that Wills undergo psychiatric and psychological evaluations and treatment while in custody.
