Marijuana, moonshine & guns…Yancey County man arrested

While investigating a complaint of illegal trapping at a residence in the Micaville area, deputies with the Yancey County Sheriff's office and officers with the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission found a trifecta of trouble.

Officers discovered 67 quarts, and pint jars of marijuana, 22 quarts of moonshine, moonshine still and 9 firearms.

Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged 56-year-old Gary Allan Hoover, of Burnsville with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintain a dwelling for controlled substance, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession and sale of non-taxed alcoholic beverage, manufacturing liquor with no permit, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Hoover was placed in the Yancey County jail under a $45,000 bond.

Hoover is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
