Medical experts host opioid crisis conference in Asheville
Medical experts with MAHEC and Mission Health hosted an opioid crisis conference on Thursday at MAHEC in South Asheville.
There was a panel included people who are working on the front lines of the opioid epidemic. Members of the medical community and students were able to ask them questions.
The discussions gave attendees an idea of the current state of the opioid crisis but focused on the ethics of opioid treatment and prescriptions.
"This is a chance to come together, talk about those, share experiences, address challenges that people have, and hopefully come up with some solutions," William Hathaway M.D., the chief medical officer of Mission Health, said. "Although, frankly, in this epidemic, there's not a lot of real easy solutions."
The North Carolina attorney general, who has made opioids a top priority, was expected to give the keynote address to end the conference.
