Mitchell County representative to pay $4,500 to settle campaign finance complaint
Western North Carolina state senator Rep. Ralph Hise, of Mitchell County, will pay $4,500 to settle a complaint over alleged campaign finance violations.
The 2017 complaint accused the Republican of repaying himself more money out of his campaign than he loaned to it -- in the amount of $10,000.
The state board of elections accepted his settlement offer today.
The settlement will end the inquiry, once payment is made by December 7.
In a statement, Hise says in part that "after cooperating fully to resolve bookkeeping mistakes and make clear our campaign's expenditures were completely legitimate, I'm pleased the facts won the day and that my family can move on."
