Mother, daughter charged after animals seized from property in Anderson County

A South Carolina mother and daughter are charged with animal abuse after deputies seized 18 animals from their property in Anderson County.

Deputies responded to a residence at Amity Road in Belton on Monday, September 25, 2017 at approximately 5:30 p.m. in reference to numerous horses on the property that were being kept in deplorable conditions.

Upon arrival, deputies noticed multiple horses that appeared to be underweight, and several that were thin or emaciated. Deputies observed no food or water available, and filthy conditions throughout the property.

After further investigation, 11 horses, five dogs, a goat and a duck were removed from the property.

Both residents of the home were charged. Glenda Gale Hicks, 70, of Anderson and Jamie Gale Hicks, 38, of Anderson have each been charged with 17 counts of ill treatment of animals.

Deputies say no further arrests are expected.
