Mountain ministry provides Christmas cheer to kids with an incarcerated parent
A mountain ministry will help provide some Christmas cheer for kids who might otherwise be overlooked.
Blue Ridge Prison and Jail Ministries will provide toys for 140 children of inmates this weekend at the Henderson County Detention Center.
There will also be refreshments and an appearance by Santa Claus.
Chaplain Sitton Allison says many of the kids are being raised by grandparents, with limited incomes.
"Well, for a lot of them it means everything, because for so many of these children are being raised by a single parent, as one parent is incarcerated. Unfortunately we have families that both parents are incarcerated. "
The Christmas parties will be held from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday is for families with last names starting A through L.
Sunday's event is for those with last names M toZ.
