The McDowell County Sheriff's Office says that a man suspected of killing his housemate has been apprehended.

Investigators had been looking for Walter Sydney “Walt" Mitchell since late Friday night. He was apprehended by McDowell County sheriff’s deputies and N.C. State Bureau of Investigation agents shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 at a residence on Muddy Creek Road in Nebo.

Deputies said that Mitchell was considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached. He is charged with murder in the death of his roommate, 36-year-old Matthew Glenn Pressley of Walnut Grove Road in Nebo.

At approximately 11:25 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018, deputies and investigators responded to Pressley’s residence to assist with a medical call. That’s when they found Pressley inside the house, with what authorities described as a head wound.

Mitchell and Pressley were roommates, and detectives received information during their investigation that Mitchell was involved Pressley's death.

Mitchell was also wanted on a parole violation.

He’s due in court on Monday, July 23, 2018.
