HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — The 7-week-old girl reported kidnapped is found in her car seat, in a man's yard.
The baby's mother told police that she and the child were taken by a man and woman wearing ski masks, but that she was able to get away.
This case has led investigators to two different scenes in Henderson County: where the baby's mother's car was found, and the area nearby where baby Shaylie was found.
We were live at the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, where we spoke to Scott Fowler, the man who says he found Shaylie just down the road from where the baby's mother's car was found.
About a dozen police cars filled his secluded driveway off of Slick Rock Road as officers looked for any evidence left behind by whoever abandoned the infant.
Scott Folwer says he heard an infant crying and found Shaylie by a rock near his driveway. He said he hadn't heard about the kidnapping, but called 911.
He says he’s thankful the baby was left near his house, rather than a random spot in the woods where she wouldn’t have been spotted so easily.
"I'm thinking, 'What kind of human being can do this?" Fowler told us.
He told us that baby Shaylie was "in good shape."
The baby left the scene in an ambulance.
At this point, police are not sharing any information about how she is doing.
