WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — The town of Waynesville is taking steps to stop camping on the property of the Bethel Professional Building, where the homeless and those battling drug issues can find help.
But over recent months, many neighbors have complained that some people were staying in tents and a storage unit at the facility, a violation of the town ordinance.
The owner of the building was notified and campers were made to find other shelter.

Town leaders said they're working with the homeless task force and nonprofits to find other options.
“Our planning department is looking at definitions of emergency shelters and low-barrier shelters. And what we'd like to be able to do is to find opportunities to provide services to people in legal ways,” Waynesville Development Services director Elizabeth Teague said.
Teague said finding answers to a growing homeless population in the area will require a menu of solutions. She said there’s no silver bullet and finding answers is an ongoing process.
