Tens of thousands of people will march in downtown Asheville this Sunday for the Women's March on Asheville 2019.

Preparations for the big day are well underway.

A fundraiser to raise money for permit fees, insurance and other necessities for the event was held Thursday night at the Block off Biltmore.

Organizers tell us they're expecting 13,000 people.

"In 2017 it was in reaction to the elections," lead organizer Marie-Line Germain earlier in the week. "Today it's not just a reaction to the elections, it's to continue to fight for equal rights and equality for women."

Organizers say the march will happen rain, snow or shine.

It begins at 11 a.m. Sunday near the Vance Monument. Participants will march from South Pack Square to MLK Park in downtown Asheville.
