Firefighters say an outside burn was the cause of a house fire in East Flat Rock on Wednesday.

The call came in just after 2 p.m. for a house fire along Crest Road.

Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue Chief Will Sheehan said an outside fire got out of control and spread to the home.

The occupants are fine, but Sheehan said they did lose some animals in the blaze. He added that the fire damaged half the home.
