ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Police are investigating an overnight shooting and crash on new Leicester Highway.

According to a search warrant, the incident began at the Hot Spot on New Leicester Highway.

That's where Kavon Clayton says he fled from, in his friend's Explorer, after he began to feel threatened by people inside two vehicles at the gas station.

Clayton told police he took off down New Leicester Highway when shots were fired at him from a white SUV and gray Ford car.

911 calls started coming in just after midnight. "Yes, man, I'm riding on Leicester Highway. [Expletive] be shooting at me," the caller said. "I'm way on down here past the church, man. Somebody's right behind me shooting at me. I need ya'll to come to me now!"

A chase ensued until Clayton lost control and crashed, overturning the Explorer near Goughes Branch Road.

Evidence of the wreck is still visible along the roadway. Clayton then says he ran to a nearby home for help.

According to the warrant, shell casings were scattered from the site of the crash all the way back to the intersection of Eliada Home Road. That's a span of about 6 miles.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is urged to call Asheville Police.
