Party Rock Fire grows to nearly 3,000 acres, containment still at 15 percent
LAKE LURE, N.C. -- The Party Rock Fire is now 2,883 acres in size, and containment remains at 15 percent.
The fire was most active on the northern perimeter. The southern edge of the fire continues to move downhill off Round Top Mountain and Rumbling Bald Mountain towards Boys Camp Road.
Firefighters have employed structure protection on homes located on the north side of the road and are prepared to engage the fire with both water from engines and burnout operations.
Structure protection is also located in Chimney Rock Village and along the closed portions of the Highway 64/74-A corridor. No structures have been lost to date.
An atmospheric inversion is forecast to occur overnight, which will prevent smoke from ventilating. Should dense ground smoke occur, travelers are encouraged to adjust speed for reduced visibility on the roads.
Area residents with respiratory ailments or sensitivities should keep their doors and windows closed and operate their HVAC system to avoid breathing the smoke. Air Quality alerts can be obtained from the NWS here.
