ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Our own Evan Donovan was a judge for Sunday's event. So if you want a judge's-eye view of the competition, check out our gallery.
If you love a sizzling showdown over beef on the grill, Asheville was the place to be Sunday.
We caught-up with chef Scott Wallace of Rankin Vault. His team won the first battle, followed by second place in 2015 with a first-place win in the people's choice category.
Wallace said he enjoys the competition, and the support for this fun and tasty local event.
"We definitely have a lot of people in this town that are fans of the Vault Burger," he said. " We have a good following for it, and expect to see a lot of those people out here this weekend. So we'll see how it goes, but I feel good about it, and I'm ready to have fun.
This event is an official qualifier for the World Food Championships.
First place judges' choice went to Kitchen-743 at Isis Restuarant and Music Hall.
