An assault and robbery in South Asheville left investigators searching for a suspect Thursday.

Asheville police said the suspect hit a young man over the head with an unknown object before taking off from an apartment complex near Long Shoals Road. Investigators said the victim was taken to Mission Hospital with a minor head injury.

Officers were called to the scene about 3:30 p.m. after a report came in about an armed robbery, possibly involving a gun, in the parking lot outside the 900 building of Reserve at Biltmore Park.

Investigators said the victim knew the suspect and it appeared to be an isolated incident.

Still, some neighbors said they were concerned about the case.

"I'm upset by it. I'm upset by it, because this was always a very safe community. I've lived here for just over seven years. Always felt safe, knew most of the people, and it concerns me a great deal," neighbor Barbara Panetta said.

The incident remained under investigation as of Thursday evening.

If you have any information about the case, you can call Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110.
