Police, Racial Justice Coalition Hold Forum for Better Relations

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Members of the Racial Justice Coalition partnered with local police to hold a forum on better relations on Thursday night.

A survey of more than 700 people found that is the number one goal for community members.

People at Thursday's forum gathered in small groups to talk about how to prevent what happened in Ferguson and Baltimore from happening here.

"It takes dialogue. It takes conversation," James Lee with the Racial Justice Coalition said. "It takes being in relationship which is exciting to hear because almost 130 people were here to have that conversation, to build that relationship and have that dialogue with law enforcement officers."

Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan and Asheville Police Chief Tammy Hooper were at the forum.
