Power to remain out for at least 24 hours for Haywood EMC customers

About 2,400 Haywood Electric Membership Corporation customers in Buncombe County are without power.

Officials with Haywood EMC tell us that customers power won't be restored until at least 7 p.m. Monday.

A fire at the substation on Bennett Road around 6:30 p.m. burned the entire substation.

They say a mobile substation will have to be brought in and installed to get power restored and that will take until at least tomorrow evening.

Officials also said it would be months before the substation was restored to it's former capacity.

The fire also affected a Duke Energy transmission line knocking out power to almost 3,500 Duke customers for just about a half hour.
