Protesters rally in Asheville in support of Russia investigation
Many here in the mountains joined a nationwide protest against President Trump on Thursday night.
Activists rallied at Vance Monument in downtown Asheville over fears the president is derailing Robert Mueller's Russia investigation. Wednesday, attorney general Jeff Sessions was ousted. The president put acting attorney general Matthew Whitaker, who has objected in the past to the scope of Mueller's investigation, in charge of the Russia probe.
Sen. Terry Van Duyn, D-District 49, said this is unacceptable.
"So, I'm here because no one is above the law, not even the president of the United States. And what he is done by firing Jeff Sessions is simply obstruction of justice," Van Duyn said. "So, I want to stand with these wonderful people and say we will not stand for it."
The senator is calling on people across the country to reject the president's decision.
