UNC Asheville unveiled a new studio space for students on Thursday.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held to show how the STEAM Studio will allow different majors to merge through projects. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art and math.

Students will begin using the educational space this coming semester.

They said this type of hands-on experience will make them more marketable in their job hunt.

"Whatever you can think, whatever you can dream, whatever ideas you have to apply to problems or needs that are out there, you come in here and you can build it," Lindsi Jones, a mechatronics engineering student, said.

Several grants helped to make the studio possible, including funds from Duke Energy and N.C. State to buy the equipment.

The STEAM Studio is located on Riverside Drive inside the RAMP building, less than a mile from UNC Asheville's campus.
