Man fatally shot by Yancey County deputy in incident reported as home invasion
YANCEY COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) —
The Yancey County Sheriff's Office confirms that a deputy shot and killed a man during an incident Friday in which a 911 caller said her husband broke into her house with an axe.
Details are limited, but Chief Deputy Shane Hilliard confirms there was an active domestic violence restraining order against the man, and that the shooting happened on Uncle Harvey's Lane in Burnsville.
The sheriff's office received a call from a woman saying that her husband had broken into her home with an axe, and Chief Deputy Shane Hilliard tells News 13 that someone reported hearing a shot between 7:30 and 9 pm Friday night near the end of Uncle Harvey’s Lane, near John Henry Road.
Hilliard says the investigation has been turned over to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
