EAST FLAT ROCK, N.C. (WLOS) — The fight over a proposed asphalt plant in East Flat Rock is over for now.
Henderson County planning leaders said Southeastern Asphalt has withdrawn its application to build the plant off Spartanburg Highway in East Flat Rock.
The decision follows months of pushback from community members.

"We won. The asphalt plant has withdrawn its application, and Friends of East Flat Rock couldn’t be happier. And thank you Jeff Shipman for doing what’s right for the community," said Michelle Tennant Nicholson, organizer of the community group against proposal.

The proposed asphalt plant would have required a zoning change for the plot of land off Spartanburg Highway.
Nicholson said she hopes this paves the way for better community planning going forward.
