It’s School Bus Driver Appreciation Week across North Carolina.

Students at Flat Rock Middle School in Henderson County are honoring their bus drivers with notes of thanks.

School bus drivers across the county are also being treated to breakfast and receiving other tokens of appreciation, like gift cards.

School staff say it is important to show appreciation of those who transport precious cargo each day.

“They’re not in it for the money, they’re in it for the kids. And that just makes me so appreciative of what they do, because they care so much about getting kids home safely,” said Bruce Gilliam, assistant principal of Flat Rock Middle School.

Officials with Henderson County Public Schools say about 6,300 students in the county ride a school bus, and they are in need of more bus drivers.
