Students from the City of Asheville Youth Leadership Academy (CAYLA) put on the event.

Organizers said it is all about education and communication.

"I hope people learn something new, find different ways to find that we have things in common and there are barriers that can be broken down by us talking about things that are going on in the community," Sophia Isis, of CAYLA and Word on the Street, said.

Another goal of the youth summit was to create an action plan to enact real social change in the community.
