The 24th annual Toe River Studio Tour takes art-lovers out of Asheville this weekend, shining the spotlight to the north.

The studio tour started Friday. It features artists and craftspeople from across Yancey and Mitchell Counties.

Because it's so spread out, seeing all the artists at work takes some navigational skills.

"This is an adventure, number one," said Toe River Arts Council Executive Director Denise Cook. "You're in a rural environment and you've got a map looking for signs to find these hidden gems along the way."

That's 58 "gems": studios featuring everything from painting to pottery and photography.

Maps of the tour can be found at studios, retail locations, or online.
