ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Mission Health has donated trauma kits to all classrooms in Asheville City and Buncombe County schools.
Mission's parent company, HCA Healthcare, donated $230,000 to put Stop the Bleed kits in every classroom and bus in both school systems.
The kits contain items to treat wounds and injuries that might need immediate attention before paramedics arrive.

The donation also provides training for staff on how to use the kits.
"Having these kits available allows the non-medical personnel to be able to apply a tourniquet if needed, pack a wound, a good pressure dressing on until we can get EMS on scene to do more interventions," said Jackie Gosnell, Mission trauma program director.
The kits will also be distributed to schools in McDowell, Macon and Mitchell counties, where HCA also has hospitals.
