Two small quakes in the mountains Monday night
The U.S. Geological Survey says two tiny quakes shook mountain areas, one Monday night near 9 p.m. and another after midnight.
A 2.2 magnitude quake struck near Lake Toxaway, close to the SC border, at around 8:45 p.m. Monday; and a smaller magnitude 1.5 earthquake struck three miles east-southeast of Mountain View around 12:30 a.m.
Both of the harmless quakes happened in isolated areas outside of city limits.
Small earthquakes are not uncommon in the carolinas.
