Weaverville's police chief retiring after 30 years
The town of Weaverville will soon say a fond farewell to Police Chief Greg Stephens.
He's retiring at the end of the year.
In his 30 years with the department, Chief Stephens accomplished a number of successful initiatives, including helping implement the Amber Alert system across Western North Carolina.
The chief says he will not miss the late-night phone calls, but he will miss the people.
"Yes, I'm certainly going to miss that, you know, I have a friendship here with our officers and with a lot of citizens," Chief Stephens said. "Over the years, I've developed close friendships with our citizens so, certainly going to miss that, but it's just time to do something else."
Stephens became the youngest chief in Weaverville's history at the age of 29.
