Wednesday: Headlock on Hunger food drive collecting items for kids this summer
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) —
Local World Wrestling Entertainment Superstars and Hall of Fame Members will help put a "headlock" on hunger. They are teaming up with Ingles markets and Eblen Charities for the Fourth Annual Headlock on Hunger Food Drive.
The drive will help make sure no students go hungry while school is out for the summer. Food and donations will be collected at the Ingles on Tunnel Road from 4:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11.
Food items needed:
- Peanut butter
- Canned fruit
- Canned meat
- Pudding cups
- Shelf-stable dinners (like frozen dinners, but found on shelves)
- Cheese crackers
- Ramen noodles
- Instant oatmeal
- Granola bars
- Quick mac & cheese
Hall of fame broadcaster and former World Wrestling Entertainment Executive Vice-President, current Fox Sports commentator, and Headlock on Hunger National Chairman Jim Ross, 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion and National Chairman of Eblen Charities Heroes Vs Hunger, Edge (Adam Copeland) and National Vice-Chair, four-time WWE Woman's Champion and WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix, and leader of the legendary Four Horsemen and WWE hall of Famer James J. Dillion will be there. They will also do signings from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and again from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
The drive is also put on in collaboration with WLOS-TV, iheart Radio, Asheville Citizen-Times, Arby's, the Brumit Restaurant Group, and WNC Wrestlers in Business. This year a number of companies and organizations will join the fight by collecting food for Headlock on Hunger including: A-B Tech, AvL Technologies, Beverly-Hanks& Associates, Kimmel and Associates, and Wilson Art International.
Food collected will be distributed through Buncombe County Schools and resource centers directly to students and their families.
