Wednesday Weather Update: Rain, rain & more rain
Numerous to widespread heavy rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to impact the area over the next few days.
A slow-moving area of low pressure drifting northward through the Gulf of Mexico will keep the region in a moist position.
Rain and thunderstorms will be likely area wide each day through Saturday. In addition to the potential for cloud-to-ground lightning, gusty winds and small hail, slow-moving cells could produce excessive rainfall and flash flooding. Rainfall rates could exceed 2" per hour.
While any time of day could be wet, most of the heavier rain will fall during the afternoon and evening hours.
Flooding forced several roads in Transylvania County to close on Wednesday morning, including Wilson Road, Island Ford Road, Hannah Ford Road, and East Fork Road.
If you live in a flood-prone area, or near a creek or stream, be prepared to move to higher ground if water threatens your property.
The clouds and rain will keep temperatures milder than average at night, and close to average during the day.
