The case of a murdered Buncombe County plastic surgeon scheduled to head to court Monday has been delayed.

Sixty-seven-year-old Brenda McCutcheon is accused of shooting her husband, Frank "Buddy" McCutcheon, last year at their home in Arden.

On July 16, 2016, Buncombe County authorities arrived at the couple's home on Tree Top Drive, where they found Dr. Frank McCutcheon, 64, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Frank McCutcheon worked at Cosmetic Surgery of Asheville, which has since closed.

Brenda's attorney said in court that she had been married to Frank for 32 years. He said she grew up in Tennessee, is a registered nurse, and worked in Dr. McCutcheon's office.

As News 13 previously reported, records confirm that Dr. McCutcheon and his wife were under investigation by the Department of Revenue. Warrants showed agents met with the couple days before Frank was found dead.

That same warrant also revealed more details about the night McCutcheon was found dead in the couple’s TV room, which had a back door open.

Documents stated deputies found a handgun that authorities believe belongs to the couple, in ivy outside the house.

According to the warrant, Brenda denied putting the gun in the ivy, and denied shooting her husband.

She was indicted for first-degree murder in November.

She has been living in the Memphis area the past year.

A judge set her bond at $750,000. She remains in custody.
