According to the Associated Press, immigration arrests have increased 40% in the first part of 2017. Currently, it appears the legal battle over President Donald Trump's so-called "travel ban" targeting six Muslim-majority countries will head to the Supreme Court. A judge has also temporarily halted the President's executive order to withhold federal money from sanctuary cities--cities that refuse to turn over unauthorized immigrants or don't cooperate with federal immigration authorities. Recently, there have also been local stories of immigrants struggling to stay with their families here in the mountains.

Immigration is now part of a very heated local and national conversation.
The purpose of the Town Hall is to address national security concerns, the travel ban, and the impacts of immigration, migrant workers, and refugees in Western North Carolina. The panelists will also look at the potential impacts of the federal courts' decisions regarding the President's executive orders.
