Over 66K WNC residents still without electricity Sunday

    Thousands of power outages have been reported across Western North Carolina on Sunday, including more than 15,000 in Buncombe County and more than 9,000 in Henderson County.

    Luckily, Duke Energy crews had been preparing for this all week and were on standby to go make repairs as a snowstorm pummeled the region. Duke had crews staged at the WNC Ag Center, waiting for the calls to come in.

    According to the Duke Energy outage map, more than 66,000 customers are still without electricity about 6 p.m.

    Buncombe: 15,734
    Haywood: 8,172
    Henderson: 9,521
    Jackson: 3,190
    Macon: 4,128
    Madison: 1
    Polk: 5,413
    Rutherford: 11,372
    Transylvania: 9,098
