Woodfin police identify man killed in wrong-way collision on I-26

Woodfin police have identified the man killed in wrong-way collision on I-26 in Woodfin on Saturday.

On Saturday, January 6, 2018 at approximately 9:51 p.m. a crash occurred on U.S.-19 South (Future I-26 East) between Exits 24 and 25.

Seventy-three-year-old Jimmy Davis of Nashville was traveling the wrong way in his Hyundai on U.S.-19 North in the southbound lane when he struck another car head-on.

Both drivers along with Davis' passenger were taken Mission Hospital. Davis died shortly after arriving.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The Woodfin Police Department is continuing to investigate this crash.

The accident happened between Elk Mountain Road and Riverside Drive, and shut down I-26 eastbound for almost two hours.

The highway opened back up just after 11:30 p.m.
