Emma Elementary students mix gardening with mathematics
Children First has created a learning lab outside of the classroom at Emma Elementary School.
Ms. Suzanne Wodek, an extension master gardener volunteer, visits the school each week and teaches children about the three growing seasons.
She said the garden is a great a way to incorporate math. She said it also gives the kids a better understanding of where their food comes from.
"When these kids at the end of the year write me a thank you note that says, 'Ms. Suzanne, thank you for teaching me,' and they draw us in the garden, you can't give me enough money to pay for that," Wodek said. "That's just what I get out of it."
In December, the kids will have a salad party from the cold crop.
