This time of year gorgeous gourds take center stage -- but not just as jack-o-lanterns at Halloween. Pumpkins also play an important part in a local fundraiser.

It's just one of the many fundraisers the school has participated in this year for Eblen.

Teachers said they want their students to develop a love of their community and learn the importance of helping others.

"Eblen helps people with stuff, if their glasses break and they don't have money to pay for that kind of stuff, they help people around here do that," fourth-grader Savannah said.

"Some people don't have a lot of money to buy jackets and school supplies, and, like the school, Eblen Charities helps them with money so they can buy the things for their kids," fourth-grader Alexis said.

The school also raised money in Eblen's walkathon earlier this month and has come in first place in the amount of money collected in previous years.

Leicester Elementary is having a Fall Festival at the school from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2. Admission is free.
