Vance Elementary hosts living museum all about scientists
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) —
One Asheville school held a science fair and talent show, all rolled into one.
For Dress Like a Scientist Day, fifth grade students at Vance Elementary School set up a living museum to show third-graders what they've been learning in class.
The fifth-graders have been learning about the differences between learned behavior, instincts and inherited traits. To help demonstrate the difference, Chirpy the chicken played a piano, which is a learned behavior.
"I think it helps us learn because we're not just reading from a book where we can't really feel anything," Ruby, a student dressed as a zoologist, said. "And once we get to know what's going to happen, I actually want to be a zoologist when I grow up so I can sort of understand what they do."
In the room you could also find chemists, forensic scientists, herpetologists, and paleontologists.
Students say it was fun hosting Dress Like a Scientist Day at Vance Elementary School.
