Signups are underway for an intensive after school program that teaches valuable music skills.

MusicWorks! Asheville is open to kindergarten through 5th grade students at Hall Fletcher Elementary School, Vance Elementary School and Asheville Primary School.

The program was created by Asheville Symphony Orchestra and students learn from multiple teaching artists during a 3-hour period every day after school.

On News 13 This Morning Lauren Brigman talks with the program director, Dr. Dave Wilken and 4th grade participant, Eric Locke.

Dr. Wilken says "our goals are not just to teach our kids about music and how to play instruments and become life-long learners of music, but we also want to teach them the value of perseverance and teamwork and all of the other skills that one develops through playing music together."
