Freezing temperatures are expected in the mountains this weekend, and that means now is the time to prepare your water pipes.

The professionals at Four Seasons Plumbing say insulation is key to protect your pipes from the cold air.

They say you should make sure your crawl space is properly insulated and suggest using slip-on foam pipe insulation for your water pipes.

It is important to close foundation vents to keep cold air out.

The owner of Four Seasons Plumbing, Max Rose, says insulation is the best way to guard your home as temperatures dip.

“The pipe insulation is the big thing. Especially anywhere that you see that cold air could be coming into your home, you want to insulate there. There’s hose bib covers. Even just regular insulation, even just trying to insulate the area where your pipes are - is a big thing,” says Rose.

He says it is also important to disconnect water hoses ahead of cold weather and if you have a well, make sure it is properly insulated.
