Only On | New Hi-Wire mural brings burst of color to South Slope

Asheville's South Slope just got a lot more colorful thanks to Hi-Wire Brewing.

The business teamed up with artist Ian Wilkinson for the new look. Hi-Wire creative director Javier Bolea said the business worked with Wilkinson in the past and thought of him when the opportunity presented itself for the brewery to get an upgrade.

"We had an opportunity to make some improvements to our original location here on the South Slope in Asheville, and bringing some really cool art to the neighborhood was at the top of our list.," Bolea said.

Wilkinson recently made headlines by changing the "Good Vibes" mural in the River Arts District to "Stay Weird." Bolea said for this project, they wanted to give the muralist freedom to "run wild."

"This project was really about letting Ian do his thing," Bolea said.

The mural isn't the only change coming to the space. Bolea says they've also given the inside of the brewery a new paint job, as well is brought in new bar stools, tables, and blinds. Bolea says the changes are meant to help people relax. He also says more projects could be on the horizon for the business.

Bolea says the new mural is meant to thank the Asheville community for its support through the years.

"This mural is for Asheville to enjoy," Bolea says. "People are loving it so far!"
