Special shirts mark new beginning for Henderson County kindergartners
The start of the school year is always an exciting time, especially for kindergartners just starting their school careers.
Officials with Glenn C. Marlow Elementary School helped students mark the milestone with special T-shirts.
Each child got a teal blue shirt with the number 2031 printed on them, representing the year they will graduate from high school.
The number is almost too big for the students to comprehend, but many were excited to get their free, oversized shirts.
"Hopefully, down the road, they will look at these T-shirts and think this was a great gift," Glenn C. Marlow Elementary School's Principal John Hart said.
Hart said handing out the shirts to the new students is one of his favorite days of the school year.
"It's really a lot of fun to see the excitement on the kids' faces. My goal is that they get these T-shirts and embrace what these T-shirts mean," Hart said.
The goal is for the children to keep the shirts as a reminder of what they are striving for -- to graduate from high school.
The shirts were purchased thanks to local community partners and passed out on the third day of school.
