Beyond the Scoreboard: Tourists win for fifth time in six games

The best run of the season for the Asheville Tourists continued Friday night with a 6-4 win over Lexington at McCormick Field, the team’s fifth win in the last six games.

Taylor Schilling (3-1) lowered his ERA to 2.77 with eight strong innings, striking out nine. Tommy Doyle finished up for his fifth save.

Schilling allowed just three runs over 101 pitches and retired the first 11 batters he faced.

Casey Golden hit his 12th home run and finished with two RBIs, while Chad Spanberger upped his average to .317 with three hits and an RBI for Asheville (19-26).

Golden has hit four homers in three games against Lexington.

After a 3-13 start to the season, the Tourists are playing better than .500 baseball (16-13).

Now 4-1 on their current eight-game homestand, the Tourists play Lexington again Saturday night in a 6:05 p.m. start.
