A pair of WNC teams that have lost just one game all season won pivotal game 3s on Saturday to advance to their state championship series, while the Reynolds High baseball team fell one game shot of accomplishing the same thing.

Franklin softball and Murphy baseball will play for state titles next weekend after claiming Western Regional titles.

Franklin defeated Bunker Hill 5-4 in Game 3 of the 2A regional final, rallying from a 4-1 deficit. The Panthers (24-1) will play South Granville (26-0) in a three-game series that begins Friday.

Murphy will play for the 1A state baseball championship for a second straight season after an 11-1 romp over Lincoln Charter on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (27-1), who lost in the title series last year, will play West Columbus in a three-game showdown that also begins Friday.

Reynolds (23-5) fell to Crest (27-3) 7-0 in Game 3 of the 3A Western Regional final. Ace starter Josh Dotson lost his first game of the season, giving up nine hits in six innings.

Franklin’s comeback featured three home runs in a four-run fifth inning, all by underclassmen. Freshman Mackenzie Redouley had a two-run shot, freshman Neveah Tran hit a solo homer and sophomore Taylor Carlton’s solo blast was the eventual game winner.

Brothers Nathan and Lucas Barolet led Murphy. Nathan gave up just four hits and struck out in six innings and Lucas was 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.

Murphy pounded out 14 hits and also got productive offense from Joey Curry (2-for-3, 3 RBIs) and Luke Garrett (3-4, 3 runs scored, 2 RBIs).
