Beyond the Scoreboard: Tourists enjoy first win streak of season
WLOS - It took 23 days and 20 games, but the Asheville Tourists finally put together back-to-back wins this season.
Stout pitching and a three-run third inning led the Tourists to a 3-2 win over Greensboro Friday night at McCormick Field.
Asheville (6-14) recovered from having three home games rained out over the previous four days.
Garrett Schilling became just the second Asheville starting pitcher to last six innings this season, allowing an unearned run while striking out five.
A trio of relievers finished up, with Robert Tyler striking out two in the ninth for his first save.
Leadoff hitter Shael Mendoza had a two-run single for Asheville, which managed just six hits and struck out 12 times against the Grasshoppers (12-8).
Greensboro reliever Dustin Beggs faced 10 batters in three innings and struck out eight.
The Tourists go after their third straight win Saturday night with a 6:05 p.m. start at McCormick Field vs. Greensboro.
