WLOS - An early-season tendency to lose close games continued for the Asheville Tourists Saturday night.

Columbia scored three runs in the ninth inning to take a 7-6 win at McCormick Field.

The Tourists (2-8) took a 5-4 lead into the ninth inning, but back-to-back errors to open the inning allowed the Fireflies (6-4) to rally for three runs.

Asheville cut the deficit to 7-6 on Bret Boswell’s third home run of the season and Steven Linkous had a two-out triple to put the tying run 90 feet away, but the Tourists could not rally any further.

Casey Golden led the Asheville offense with a pair of doubles and two RBIs.

Asheville relievers Ben Bowden and Tommy Doyle combined to give up five hits and four runs (two earned) in the last two innings.

The loss was the Tourists’ sixth by one or two runs.

The fourth game of the series was canceled due to rain on Sunday. Rome comes to McCormick Field for a three-game set beginning with a 7:05 game on Monday.
